The Good We Are Doing…
The Kyrene Foundation is pleased to support prevention efforts that are underfunded or unfunded in the Kyrene School District. Programs like Character Education, Rachel’s Challenge, summer programs and more are supported by the Kyrene Foundation and other grants and partners.
The Kyrene Alternative to Suspension Program (KASP) has been in operation since 2004 and over 1100 suspended students (4th — 8th grade) who would have otherwise been at home due to poor choices in school have participated. KASP allows these students to continue their academics, build self- esteem and participate in character development learning projects. The Foundation continues to support this method of creating solid student citizens.
Athletic and Enrichment Scholarships are made available with Kyrene Foundation funding. Studies support that students who are involved in after-school and enrichment programs feel more bonded to their school and demonstrate improved academic performance. The Kyrene Foundation supports this by dedicating funds annually to provide athletic and enrichment scholarships for students who would otherwise be unable to participate.
Each year the Kyrene Foundation awards twelve Slater-Newman Student Scholarships, scholarships to outstanding 8th grade students who go above and beyond in the area of community service. The scholarships are named after the two Kyrene employees who started the Kyrene Family Resource Center.
